Moose season

Please don’t traumatize yourself if you just can’t bear to see dead animals. I took this photo through the front windshield as we were driving to visit far away relatives. Click here to see the smaller photo; click here to see the slightly larger (cropped from an original that is not uploaded).

  1. As long as they use all the parts and eat all the parts they can, I don’t have a problem with it…it is those that just hunt for a head to hang on the wall that make me want to hang their heads on the walls.

  2. I woke up to my neighbor hanging a rather large female moose by her hind legs on a winch two mornings ago.

The bleeding and gutting is by far my very favorite part of moose season. Yeah. Not.

  3. My favorite bloody-and-guts memory is from age 8 when Mom and her boyfriend got a house together that had a garage. One of his kids went hunting and shot a deer. The deer was strung up in the garage and gutted directly over the cement floor — no tarp, no newspaper, nothin’. The blood drained directly onto the floor and left a permanent stain. Ugh. Yuck.
