don’t walk

Hi. You’re great. Small favor. If you are not capable of navigating yourself through pedestrian traffic while walking and talking on your cell phone, please move yourself out of the way of pedestrians, park yourself, and have your phone call. When you’re on your phone you drift toward people walking toward you. I promise you that you do this. And I promise you that when you spill coffee all over me I’m not going to be happy about this. Because why would I be happy that your inability to walk and talk would cause me to have molten hot coffee all over my front? So, thanks. And, you’re still great. Bye!

  1. Let’s see if this posts…for some reason I always have problems commenting here from Firefox. Anyhow, this is so completely a peeve of mine…and those that stop right in front of me to read or reply to a text….grrr….just move to the side so you aren’t blocking people…it isn’t that hard!

  2. Today’s person was completely stopped on the side of the sidewalk, listening on the phone. I saw her start walking forward, but it was too late, I was already right next to her, with three bags of HEAVY groceries (cat food, cat LITTER, two bottles of spaghetti sauce, lots of other little things) and a hot coffee, and she just walked right in front of me and stopped. No reason. She wasn’t going anywhere. She had stayed put while I walked almost an entire short block, and then she saw me coming from the corner of her eye and was compelled to enter my path because that’s what people who can’t talk/text and walk do.

  3. For the record, not in her defense, she was horrified that she entered my path. I wondered what other horrible things were going on in her life from that one glimpse into her eyes.

  4. That is one of my pet peeves. Ninety-nine percent of those conversations are not work-related. “Do you want me to pick up some ham?” There’s a great video (a few years old now) of a woman walking and talking on her cell phone in a mall. She didn’t see the big water fountain/pool.

  5. I just stopped by to thank you for the really kind comment on my blog post from the other day. But what a treat to find such funny, warm, personal writing here. I’ll be back :)
